BYD Yangwang U8 Launched in China with 1100 HP and four motors
On January 5, BYD luxury brand Yangwang U8 was officially released, and the new technology platform "e⁴" was also officially released. As a new SUV under BYD's luxury brand Yangwang, the new vehicle will adopt a non-load-bearing body and be equipped with four wheels and four motors independent drive.
The SUV has a staunch stance, with a length of 5300mm and a wheelbase of 3050mm. It is also equipped with hidden door handles, aerodynamic designs on the wheel arches, and D-pillars. The new car will be offered with R20-inch wheels with a tire size of 275/60 R20.
The exterior of the U8 was designed by Wolfgang Josef Eiger, which adopts the "Gate of Time" design language, incorporating futuristic and technological sense into the hard-core styling style. The headlights have a unique shape and are highly recognizable when lit up. The interior of the grille is decorated with dot matrix, and the center is inlaid with the brand logo of Look Up, which is inspired by the oracle word "electricity".
The conference did not announce the new car's interior, according to previous spy photos, the new car will be equipped with a full LCD instrument panel + central touch screen, the size of both screens are very large, it is expected that it will also be built-in look up exclusive infotainment system.
In terms of power, the "e⁴" car platform will offer four wheels and four motors, with a maximum power of 220-240kW and maximum torque of 320-420Nm for a single motor, enabling the Yangtze U8 to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 3 seconds. In addition, the new vehicle will be equipped with an "e⁴" blade battery, and a non-loadable body. The four-wheel, four-motor technology supports independent control of torque at individual wheels, making the electronically controlled four-wheel drive system 100 times more responsive and 20 times more adjustable than traditional mechanical full-time four-wheel drive systems. Thanks to the four motors, the U8 is also able to "tank turn" - rotate 360 degrees on its own axis - and move diagonally like a GMC Hummer EV. It can also continue driving with a flat tire (120km/h), float mode, etc.
Due to the IP68 level waterproofing of the body seal and motor, BYD says its new SUV can float. After being in the floating state, it can also drive normally to get out of trouble ability. However, this mode will be used as a passive function, not an active function, limited to the deep water section to get out of trouble, it is not recommended to go to rivers or lakes and other water challenges. In addition, flat tire continue to drive mode means that after the vehicle 120km / h driving a flat tire, the system will quickly monitor the tire pressure changes, and through the body stability control system to adjust the body posture, to maintain continued stable driving.
BYD has not yet revealed further product details, but said the premium brand is expected to sell for between about 800,000 and 1.5 million yuan ($110,280 to $206,763).
